A standard single or double garage door installation takes three to five hours once the door is on site. The longer part is the wait between ordering and install day, which runs from a few days for a stock door to four to eight weeks for a custom or insulated door in a special color. The Two Timelines: Ordering and Install Day

People usually ask this question because they want to know when they will have a working door again. So think of it as two clocks. The first clock starts when you pick a door. A common white steel raised-panel door in a standard size is often in stock at our supplier and can be installed within a few days. A full-view aluminum door, a wood-look steel door in a walnut finish, or anything oversized for an RV bay is built to order, and the factory lead time is what it is. The second clock is install day itself, and that is the three-to-five-hour part.

What Happens During the Install

Here is how a typical install runs, so you know what you are watching:

• Remove the old door, springs, cables and tracks. Releasing the spring tension safely is the most important step and takes real care. About 45 minutes.

• Check the opening. We look at the header, the jambs and the floor. If the jambs are rotted or the header is sagging, that gets fixed before anything new goes up.

• Hang the new tracks and stack the sections, bottom to top, with hinges and rollers installed as we go.

• Install and wind the torsion springs sized to the actual weight of the new door.

• Hook up the opener, whether it is the existing one or a new garage opener installation.

• Balance the door, set the opener limits and force, test the safety sensors, and walk you through the remotes and keypad.
